Interpretations from Fanning the Cards
Many thanks to Carla Stewart, a talented tarot card reader and transpersonal psychotherapist, who has generously allowed me to include her observations regarding fanning out the cards immediately prior to the querent picking out their chosen cards. These events are experienced regardless of who actually does the fanning out – the querent or the reader.
Carla Stewart writes:
"As the client walks into the room, I am usually shuffling the cards to activate the energy more – or to clear the energy from the last reading. I have noticed that if the cards feel like they are 'clumping together' then the querent is bringing a lot of stress with them (this feels different to an energy residue build up where normal space or sound clearing will suffice). Conversely so, if the cards are very loose, then the querent is mentally agitated to a point of being too 'air' like, unable to make decisions, scatterbrained etc.
"Then to the fanning out of the cards, where the client normally chooses the cards for the reading. At this point, when I spread those cards out, they have a very definite feel which will interlace through the following reading.
- The spread out represents a birds eye view of life from the beginning to the present day, so you would use this to have an idea of where traumas have occurred; Breaks in the early sections obviously relate to childhood traumas and kind of represent a break in energy or continuity, usually losses of somekind (Grief, Divorces etc),
- Breaks in the opposite end of the spectrum (near the end of the spread out) tend to show divorces or relationship break-ups where there has been major acrimony or disruption, usually in context of disrupting life rather than causing Grief or Loss issues.
- Clumps in the early part of the spectrum (and obviously you need to be exceptionally careful how you work with or around this) show intense stress that usually relates to extreme guilt or shame issues (Sexual trauma or abuse being the obvious ones here). It's almost like the energy is compacted or stunted in some way, held in an intense space. I find that this is like a 'secretive' energy, not being allowed into light etc.
- Clumps in the opposite end (the more recent time factor) tend to show more of an adult sense of not speaking, less intense than that of 'secretive' but still alludes to a sense of 'holding' rather than flowing, indicating a burden of kinds – usually an extreme of obligation that is 'creating a feeling of not being to speak it' (looking after an elderly relative without sufficient support etc)."
